Tomorrow's the Big Day

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, we will be starting our long walk back to Maine. You will be able to follow our progress via this blog. The map on the right side of the page should be updated daily by our wonderful sisters. You can also find a link in the sidebar to our SPOT page that will show the previous seven days of trail activity.

We will be posting occasionally, but we won't be able to share any photos until we finish the hike, unless someone else on the trail takes our photo and emails them to us.

Please feel free to email and/or leave comments here and share our contact info with anyone else you think might be interested in our crazy adventure.

We left our house about 7:30 AM, Sat, May 2; stopped about 30 minutes prior to getting to Amicalola State park for a second breakfast to make sure they had one more good meal prior to beginning their hike. We were able to hike in about 4 miles before leaving them to their adventure. (The first portion was 604 stairs to the top of the waterfall) We had pouring rain during the stair climb. Their packs each weighed in @ 35 pounds! Wow - glad we weren't carrying that extra weight. We encountered another downpour shortly after starting the trail to the start of the AT. At 2:00 PM we hugged them wished them well and Godspeed then started our decent back to civilization. The last mile we hiked was marked so we timed it. We were going a bit slower than we had hiked with T & C! It took us approx. 30 minutes - so they will definately be hiking between a 20 & 30 minute mile. What an adventure!

Chris and Tarah are having a great walk in the wood.
We walked (?) (they are quite fast!) with them for 4 miles along the approach trail.
I am impressed with their preparedness. They continually ask how the other is doing, change leaders for a change of past and keep tabs on physical conditions.
We inspected their packs. All 35 pounds of them. Like we knew what we were looking for?
It is amazing how much, yet how little, they pack into those for survival. Including 3-4 days of food. Well, snacks anyways.

Godspeed on your walk...........
